Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition launches bicycle safety campaign
Submitted by editor on Tue, 07/26/2016 - 7:32amThe Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition has launched a multimedia education campaign to promote safe bicycling for Tahoe visitors and residents.
“We hope these safety tips help ensure people enjoy riding their bicycles at Lake Tahoe,” said Curtis Fong, vice president of the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. “This is the greatest and most beautiful place in the world to ride a bike, and we want to help make sure that bicyclists are aware of safe riding practices when bicycling on roadways or bike paths around Lake Tahoe.”

The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

Some downtown businesses hurt by bike race closures

When the boys outgrew that, Brian would wrap a rubber tube around their bike stems and tow them behind his own bike.

Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

Carson City residents Matthew Bartak and Teak Dopf have got inertia down to a science. They haven't stopped moving since the first time they touched a set of wheels.
They've ridden bikes, skateboards, scooters and skates. They loved them all so much that the two friends became partners in a business two years ago that took their passion for riding to another level.

In doing so though, a reminder, riding your dirt bike or ATV on the streets is not legal as they are designated “Off road use only” vehicles.

Downtown Coin Club makes donation to Howell family; motorcycle rally on Saturday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 7:40pmA fundraiser by The Downtown Coin Club for the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell raised $540. The donation, along with a custom-made plaque, was presented to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Friday.
The money was raised through the generosity of Downtown Coin customers, and matched by the Downtown Carson City Coin Club, said Downtown Coin owner Dan Wilson.

Bull riding Saturday to raise money for family of slain deputy Carl Howell
Submitted by editor on Fri, 10/09/2015 - 12:57pmManuel Souza is bringing back his Smackdown Bull Riding tour to Carson City on Saturday — this time as a fundraiser for Deputy Carl Howell, who was killed in the line of duty Aug. 15.
“I think it’s the right thing for us to do as people,” said Souza, who is working in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Association. “Police officers do a thankless job. But they’re always there when you need them, aren’t they? I think it’s important we do this.”

The all-day fundraiser will feature special guest Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt and a video appearance by actor Joe Mantegna, of "Criminal Minds" and "The Simpsons." Headlining band will be Lavish Green. One hundred percent of the profit proceeds from the benefit will be presented to the Howell family.
