The now Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, founding member of iconic rock band The Jefferson Airplane and of long-touring band Hot Tuna and legendary guitarist in his own right, plays High Sierra Brewing Company, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m. in a show produced by Chili Bop Entertainment.

Millennium Bugs to Perform Sept. 7 at Silver Oak in Carson City
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 09/05/2012 - 2:44amThe Millennium Bugs, a five-piece combo affiliated with the Mile High Jazz Band, will perform on Friday, Sept. 7, 7:00 to 10 p.m., at Silver Oak Golf Club and Event Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. Admission is free.
The musicians are Gil Linsley, trumpet; Dan Lancaster, sax, flute, clarinet; David Bugli, keyboard; Charles DiLaura, bass; and Neil Strocchio, drums. The group plays a variety of jazz styles for listening and dancing.

Strings in the Schools program begins Sept. 5
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/24/2012 - 10:31amCarson City Symphony's comprehensive program of string instruction begins the first week of September, after school, at three schools in Carson City. Strings in the Schools, directed by the Symphony's Education Director, Sue Jesch, provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5 and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades. Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association.
Jazz All-Stars Display at Carson City Library until August 31

Roop Street. The exhibit is part of Mile High Jazz Band's 2012 Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival. Although festival musical performances have ended, the exhibit will continue during library hours until August 31.

DFG cites poacher for harvesting giant (black) sea bass
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 06/13/2012 - 2:24pmA California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) warden cited a southern California man for an illegal take of giant (black) sea bass.
Scott Andrew Carlton, 30, of Corona Del Mar was spear fishing on Friday night at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Salt Creek Beach at Dana Point in Orange County when he harvested a state protected giant sea bass, commonly called a black sea bass.
A concerned citizen took a photo of the man and his catch, then notified a nearby CHP officer.

Fish are active and conditions are perfect.
The surface temps are averaging 59 degrees, and climbing to 61.5 degrees by midday. Clarity is very good, to 13.5 ft. Still cool enough on the surface to still be holding some nice Kings on the west side. 2 salmon were caught trolling Almanor West up to 2 lbs.
Trolling has been more effective than bait fishing deep holes and should remain that way until surface temps really spike. Like above 65 degrees.

Draw a great big red circle around the date of Saturday, June 9 on your calendar and then plan to have a fun-filled day in the Great Outdoors.
June 09 is Nevada’s Free Fishing Day for the year 2012.
On that day, you can fish anywhere you want, and not need a Nevada fishing license or a Nevada Trout Stamp or a Nevada Second Rod Stamp.
UNR researcher supports Lake Tahoe harvest of invasive crayfish numbered at 220 million
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/31/2012 - 2:12pmThe University of Nevada, Reno’s Sudeep Chandra, a leading Lake Tahoe scientist who has studied invasive species and limnology at the lake for 20 years, said issuing permits for commercial harvesting of crayfish at Lake Tahoe will help improve clarity at the pristine lake, as well as take away a food source for other invasive species that threaten lake clarity and ecosystems.

Northern Pike tourney at Comins Lake
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 05/23/2012 - 12:04amIf you’re looking for something totally different to do this weekend in the fishing world, you might want to take the long trip to Ely and be a contestant in a Northern Pike fishing derby at nearby Comins Lake.
Comins Lake is located just several miles out of Ely; it contains Northern Pike, some Largemouth Bass and perhaps even a few leftover rainbows.
The Pike were illegally introduced into Comins some years ago and have virtually wiped out all other species with their voracious appetites.
