ALPINE LAKE, CALIF:
It will be planted this week by the California Department of Fish and Game.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

BISHOP AREA, CALIF:

Big game applicant from Carson City wins $1,000 gift certificate

Robert B. Lincoln, a sportsman from Carson City, has won a $1,000 gift certificate, an incentive for applying ear¬ly for a 2011 Big Game tag.

Lincoln was notified via phone by Don Sefton of Systems Consultants, the sponsor of the gift certificate.

“The winner had the option to choose a gift certificate to Cabela’s, Scheels or Bass Pro and chose Cabela’s,” said Sefton. “It was a very exciting phone call to make, and Mr. Lincoln was thrilled to win the incentive prize.”

UNR Study: Tahoe native fish population declines sharply, invasives on the rise

(News Release) — In a lakewide study, a team of scientists lead by University of Nevada, Reno limnologist Sudeep Chandra has found a considerable decline in native fish species density at Lake Tahoe since 1951. In their final report, they are recommending establishing and implementing a management plan to protect the nearshore zone habitat, which is critical to native fish.

The end of a trout stocking era

Sometime in mid-March the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will release the last load of rainbow trout for the agency’s annual stocking season at Lake Mead and Lake Mohave.

But unlike years past, the release of these final truckloads of fish will mark more than the end of a trout stocking season.

They will mark the end of an era, the end of NDOW trout stocking efforts along the Lower Colorado River.

Iowa ice fishermen having record year

Ice fishermen in Iowa are having one of the best seasons in years.
From the northern portion of the state to the Mississippi River in our backyard, people are drilling holes in the ice and pulling in fish almost as fast as they can bait their hooks.

Joe Larscheid, Chief of Fisheries for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, said the banner year is no accident.
