Auto body repair scam warning issued in Carson City area

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a scam involving a mobile auto body repairman who is asking for money to do on-the-spot vehicle repairs.

At least two residents have been taken in the scam, according to the sheriff's office, with one being followed to the bank for payment of service.

Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest reports for Oct. 18

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, Oct. 18, 12:52 a.m. at the intersection of College Parkway and Sherman. He faces misdemeanor charges of contempt of court warrant, minor consuming alcohol and possession of marijuana.

According to the arrest report, officers with the Special Enforcement Team were patrolling northbound on College Parkway when a vehicle was seen stopped with its hazard lights on.

Tough conditions for start of qualifier at Dayton Valley

Dayton, Nev. — Cool fall temperatures and a gusty northeast wind played havoc with scoring in the first round of the Stage One Web.com Qualifying Tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Club. A combination of the wind blowing from the opposite direction from normal, fast and hard greens and difficult pin placements lead to the high scores.

Dusty Fielding turned in the best performance of the day with a 3-under 69. Fielding from Washington, Utah was the low qualifier in last year's PGA Tour qualifying at Dayton.

Former Carson City high school teacher receives prison sentence for sexual conduct with student

Former Carson High School teacher Jennifer Dalton, 36, was sentenced Tuesday in Carson City District Court to a maximum of 30 months in prison on one felony count of sexual conduct with a student.

Dalton pled no contest on August, 20 to having a sexual relationship with a 17 years old male student.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger argued that the court should send a clear message that teachers, who are in a position of trust by parents, families, and communities, should be sent to prison for violating that trust.

Several misdemeanor arrests made by Carson City authorities during weekend

The following arrests were made over the weekend by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested at 5:27 p.m. at Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street. She faces misdemeanor charges of petit larceny and disorderly conduct. A 34-year-old woman with her face charges of petit larceny and violation of a suspended sentence.

High Sierra Brewing Co. wins gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival

High Sierra Brewing Co., in Carson City took home a gold medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival competition held recently in Denver.

Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 12 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.

Carson City firefighters respond to structure fire on Wilma Way

Carson City firefighters were called at around noon to a working structure fire at a home located at 2555 Wilma Way. Firefighters at the scene report smoke coming from inside the garage area. Two dog were reportedly rescued in the fire.

According to dispatch reports via police scanner, firefighters had made entry into the home as of around 12:10 p.m. to see if anyone is inside and found the two dogs. Carson City Animal Services was called to respond.

Carson City man jailed on felony credit card fraud warrant

A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday and faces a felony warrant charge of fraudulent use of a credit card and misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence. George Joseph Gillespie was arrested in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road at 10:16 p.m.

According to the arrests report, the felony warrant was issued Oct. 7, 2013 out of Carson City Justice Court. The misdemeanor warrant was issued Sept. 12, 2013. Bail: $6,000.

A 36-year-old woman was arrested at 3:20 p.m. Oct. 8, at the intersection of Reeves and South Edmonds in Carson City. She faces misdemeanor charges of failure to comply and domestic battery after allegedly hitting the victim with barbecue tongs causing him to bleed.

Doug Busey's local lake and stream fishing report

Just got back from a 1,200 mile trip up the coast and into Oregon to fish and enjoy family. Renee and I enjoyed all the rivers on the way. The Russian, Klamath, Eel, Illinois, Chetco, Smith and the Rogue. Caught a few fish and had a great time.

While in Gold beach Oregon we received over 2 inches of rain in one afternoon.
