High Sierra Brewing Co. wins gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival
High Sierra Brewing Co., in Carson City took home a gold medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival competition held recently in Denver.
Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced Oct. 12 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colo.
“We are on a high like we have never felt before," said Jim Phalan, president at High Sierra Brewing Co., Inc. "Our brewers, Jeff and Paul Young have done an outstanding job crafting this beer. I’m very proud of them.”
High Sierra Brewing Co., Inc was recognized in the Specialty Honey beer-style category for its Buzzed Bee Honey Ale, an ale that uses locally grown Wild Flower Honey in this brew. It has a deep straw color and low hop bitterness. Perfectly paired with: Pizza, fruit, and desserts. High Sierra Brewing Co., Inc is a 15 barrel brewpub located in Carson City that specializes in fresh quality food and hand crafted beers with great flavor and drinkability.
The 2013 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 201 expert judges from the record number of 4,809 entries received from 745 U.S. breweries.
“The Great American Beer Festival brings together the most stellar brewers from around the country,” said Chris Swersey, competition director. “Taking home a medal at this premier beer competition is truly a symbol of brewing excellence.”
