Don Q's Nevada and northern California fishing report for week of Dec. 11-17

Here's this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, northern California and the Sierra, including Lake Tahoe.

Your best bet, at least for now, is to stay off any ice until it is determined the ice is thick enough to hold human weight. Ice fishing reports should trickle in over the coming weeks. This report is for the week of Dec. 11-17.

Carson City firefighters knock down late night mobile home fire

Carson City firefighters were called to a structure fire late Tuesday night at a Tiger Drive mobile home park in which a unit burned leaving a family homeless.

The residence had significant smoke and structural damage inside. The fire was brought under control at 12:16 a.m., Wednesday morning and fully extinguished at 1:22 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses said the family returned from work to find the home filled with smoke that appeared to come from the floor area in the front part of the unit. Family members grabbed what they could and evacuated.

Well Howdy folks! I sincerely hope you all had a GREAT Thanksgiving! We do have so much to be thankful for.

One of the things I am thankful for is that we have finished updating all our office computers operating system to a newer version of “doors” (not the real name to protect the innocent). I haven’t noticed any improvement in productivity yet though. (I thought new computer stuff always meant new tools that make us more productive.

Man jailed on domestic battery charge after allegedly threatening to 'clip' father

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 300 block of Thurman Drive on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched at 4:28 a.m. to the residence regarding a man that was agitated and throwing things. Officers arrived at the home and were allowed in by the man's father.

Carson City man jailed after allegedly stuffing a six pack of bottled beer in his pants

A Carson City man faces a felony charge of shoplifting after being arrested early Friday morning at a convenience store in the 3000 block of North Roop Street.
Tarron Westley Evans, 28, was being held in Carson City Jail on $20,000 bail. A 35-year-old accomplice was arrested on four misdemeanor charges including drug paraphernalia and obstructing an officer.

Driver going the wrong way in June Highway 50 crash arrested on two counts of vehicular homicide

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday and faces two counts of vehicular homicide in the June 23, 2013 early Sunday morning fiery crash on Highway 50 that killed two people after the driver was going the wrong way.

Outdoors with Don Q: Some suggestions for 2013 Christmas gifts

With all of the crazy “Black Friday” shopping madness (shootings, knifings, fights, etc.) now behind us, we can begin, once again, to think rationally about ideas for Christmas gifts for that special person(s) in our lives.

Winter storm, cold in Northern Nevada causes unsafe driving conditions

During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend meteorologists in Northern Nevada were preparing citizens for the first winter storm of the season. It was projected to hit our area on Tuesday morning on Dec. 3.

Most were preparing for the snow to be on the ground before they began their commute to work or school, but we did not see the effects of the storm until after 7:30 in the morning Tuesday.

Snowstorm brings slick roads, wrecks, several spinouts

UPDATE: An accident was reported at 5:01 p.m. in the northbound lane of Highway 395 at Highway 50. NHP reports no serious injuries.

UPDATE: Southbound traffic at Hot Springs and Roop in Carson City is closed due to several spinouts as of 3:26 p.m. Traffic is backed up in the area, with snowplows and sanders making their way to clear the road.

An accident reported at I-580 and Eastlake is causing traffic problems extending into the Washoe Valley and old Highway 395, according to NHP. The freeway was closed briefly. Both lanes are now open as of 3:38 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report for Dec. 3

A Dayton man was booked into Carson City Jail Dec. 2, on a felony failure to appear warrant.
James Kepler, 30, had a no-bail warrant issued Nov. 19 out of Western Regional Drug Court relating to the alleged crime of possession of a controlled substance.

Carson City emergency crews respond to crash at Highway 50 East and Flint, traffic being re-routed

Two vehicles were involved in a crash this afternoon at Highway 50 East near Flint Road. One injury was reported and Care Flight was requested to pick up the patient at the Carson City Airport, according to emergency personnel on the scene.

Arriving deputies report a large debris field from the crash. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were called as to help with rerouting traffic around the accident scene. The Nevada Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and were responding.

The crash was reported at around 12:45 p.m.

Passenger in possession of knife admits to slashing tires of woman's vehicle

A 35-year-old Dayton woman was arrested Dec. 2, 4:11 a.m. on suspicion of second offense DUI, a gross misdemeanor and speeding over 21 mph. The woman was arrested in the 900 block of North Stewart Street in Carson City.

A Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a call of a possible DUI driver in the 500 block of North Carson Street. The deputy located the driver traveling westbound on William Street at Mills Park where radar clocked her doing 57 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to the arrest report.

Man jailed on DUI, drug charges; allegedly goes wrong way down highway, pizza drive-thru

A 69-year-old Minden man was arrested Nov. 30 on suspicion of felony possession of methamphetamine after being stopped for driving on the wrong side of the highway and then the opposite end of a restaurant drive-thru line.

Raymond E. Custis also faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of drugs, driving without insurance and a valid license, and possession of marijuana.

Carson City motel manager faces additional charge of felony strangulation in Friday attack

An assistant motel manager arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of battery and intimidation now faces a felony charge of domestic battery with strangulation.

Domestic disputes, fights dominate Carson City arrests on Thanksgiving day

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded to numerous fights on Thursday that resulted in misdemeanor arrests for assault and domestic battery charges. Among the arrests:

A 41-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Thursday in the 3400 block of Imperial Way. She was arrested on suspicion of domestic battery and resisting after allegedly punching her husband.

Carson City woman jailed after allegedly lighting boyfriend's underwear on fire

A 21-year-old Carson City woman faces a felony arson charge after allegedly lighting her boyfriend's underwear on fire in the hallway of their home.

Amber Lynn Gray was arrested by Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East.

Rethinking Common Core... it is still a Huge Step DOWN

The Common Core "State" Standards are a major change in the purpose, content and methodology of educating children from K through 12. According to some reports, not only are the college entrance exams being revised to be Common Core compliant, COLLEGES are also said to be considering adapting the change.

The question is, the change from WHAT?

The question is important because Common Core is either a step up, or just another step further down the road of the ever lower "progressive" standards that America has been experimenting with for over a hundred years. 

Christmas in the Sierra Concert

“Christmas in the Sierra Concert, featuring David John and the Comstock Cowboys with special guest Molly Malone, returns to the Historic Genoa Town Hall on Saturday, December 14th. Trio allegedly squatting in campers on private property face drug-related charges

A 25-year-old Carson City was arrested Nov. 24, 11:01 p.m. He faces felony warrant charges of domestic battery and failure to appear out of Del Norte Superior Court in California. Daniel Glenn is being held on $35,000. He was stopped doing 50 in a 35 mph zone while traveling northbound on Lompa Lane.

In other felony arrests:
A 49-year-old Carson City man faces a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and three misdemeanor charges. James Henry Minor Jr. was arrested Nov. 22, 5:38 p.m. in the 1500 block of Airport Road.

Suspect in Wells Fargo bank robbery in custody

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released the following information on Friday afternoon's robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at the corner of William Street and Saliman Road. The suspect, Terry Wayne Fowler, 51, who was armed with a folding knife, was booked into Carson City Jail on robbery charges.

Woman faces felony drug charges, allegedly brings magic mushrooms into jail during booking

A burned out license plate and tail light on a vehicle led to the arrest of a two early Wednesday morning, with a 19-year-old woman facing felony drug charges.

Officers patrolling the area stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Northridge and Roop streets shortly before midnight after seeing the violations and made contact with the driver, Shayla Marie Feber and an 18-year-old male passenger.

Charter brings 150 HD channels, improved all-digital network to Carson City, Lyon, Storey county customers

Charter Communications in Carson City will soon enjoy access to more than 150 high definition (HD) channels as part of an all-digital upgrade.

On December 3, Charter will clear all analog signals from its local network, making way to add more than 120 new HD channels in Carson City and neighboring Storey and Lyon counties. Customers will have access to more than 150 HD channels once Charter completes its move to an all-digital network.

Carson City's Arlington Square Ice Rink to open the day after Thanksgiving

Time to dig out the blades from the garage, lace them up and head to downtown Carson City for a frosty, icy wintertime tradition.

The Arlington Square Ice Rink will skate its way into the 2013-2014 season beginning Friday, Nov. 29. The facility is located at the corner of North Carson Street and West Robinson Street across from the Carson Nugget. The facility offers skate rentals, a warming tent, snacks and beverages and plenty of thrills for the family.

Man arrested on suspicion of DUI, passenger admits to eating marijuana during traffic stop

A woman was taken to the hospital after she collided into a building near Mallory Way in Carson City on Monday afternoon.

According to Carson City Sheriff's Office, the accident was called into dispatch at around 1:22 p.m. The woman was driving a Saturn when she drove it into part of the building. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Her condition is unknown. The accident remains under investigation.
