Violent fugitive back in Nevada custody after hiding in Mexico
A dangerous fugitive convicted of attempted murder in 2004 is back in custody with the Nevada Department of Corrections, according to the U.S. Marshals Service in Reno.
Robert Timothy Barfield was arrested Dec. 16, 2023 in Monterrey, Mexico by Mexican immigration officials. He was wanted in Nevada for a Parole Violation.
In 2004, Barfield was convicted of attempted murder when he fired shots at Nevada Highway Patrol troopers who were conducting a traffic stop on him. It is reported that Barfield is a Norteno gang member.
In November 2021, Barfield was granted parole and in December 2022 he absconded from the supervision of the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation, according to the U.S. Marshals Service in a news release.
A fugitive investigation done by the Nevada State Police Fugitive Intelligence Unit, The U.S. Marshals Service in Reno, USMS in Monterrey, Mexico and Mexican Immigration authorities resulted in Barfield being found and arrested in Monterrey.
Barfield, who is a U.S. citizen, was deported by Mexican Immigration officials and turned over to U.S. Marshals at in San Diego, Calif.
“I want to thank our local law enforcement partners as well as our Mexican partners with bringing back a dangerous fugitive who was hiding out in their country," said District of Nevada U.S. Marshal Gary Schofield.
