Capital Cab delivers Toys for Tots: Two cars stuffed with gifts unloaded at Ron Wood Center
The Capital Cab Company delivered more than $2,000 worth of toys Thursday to the Ron Wood Center in Carson City as a yearly contribution to Toys for Tots.
This is the fourth year Capital Cab has participated in Toys for Tots and this year the company delivered two fully loaded cab cars worth of brand new toys.
“I remember when my wife and I were young, and struggling and needed help," said General Manager of Capital Cab Company, Barry Lawless. “It just feels great to be able to give back.”
According to Ron Wood Center Executive Director, Joyce Buckingham, Capital Cab raises money from the community through donations collected by their drivers.
The Ron Wood Center tells them what age groups and what kind of toys are most needed. Then, Capital Cab members have a shopping day where all of the toys are purchased. Lawless and driver Mark Shepler, coordinate the collection for Capital Cab and driver Teslah Callahan helped deliver the toys.
“Their hearts are in the right place and many children in the community will have a better Christmas thanks to their efforts,” she said.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.
“I want to thank the volunteers and the community for being so generous and helping the children in our community,” said Buckingham. The Ron Wood Center has over 100 volunteers and serves more than 2,000 kids in the Carson City area.
