Wind Advisory extended through afternoon for Carson City area; travel restrictions in Washoe Valley
Gusty winds will continue today for Carson City, Carson Valley and Virginia City areas as a cold front pushes through the region. A Wind Advisory that was set to expire at 10 this morning has been extended to 4 this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Gusts of up to 70 mph can be expected in the foothills and wind prone areas today, especially along Highway 395 and Interstate 580. As of this report, the highest wind gust in Carson City was clocked at 38 mph at 3:58 this morning, according to CarsonWeather.com.
The Nevada Department of Transportation has restricted travel for trucks, buses, trailers and RVs over 9 feet high through Washoe Valley between Eastlake Boulevard and the junction of Interstate 580.
