Happening tonight: Big Brother and Holding Company headline Carson City outdoor concert
The Levitt AMP outdoor concert Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City welcomes Big Brother & The Holding Company who are considered — along with the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane — the pioneers of the 1960s San Francisco Sound.
Recognized in the history of rock and roll as the band that launched the career of the great Janis Joplin, Big Brother & the Holding Company are the band that recorded “Cheap Thrills”, what many consider to be the definitive record of Janis’s greatest singing.
The Saturday, August 3 concert is at the Connections outdoor stage of the Brewery Arts Center, 449 West King Street, Carson City. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Opening Act is Haley and the Comet. For additional fun the BAC campus will have a kids area, food trucks, and beverage bars. Lawn chairs are welcome but folding chairs will be available for those that prefer to travel light. Well behaved pets on leashes are welcome too.
Rolling Stone Magazine listed Big Brother & the Holding Company's “Cheap Thrills” as one of the greatest albums of all time, and Big Brother’s version of “Piece of My Heart” has been included in the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Library of Congress.
Original members Peter Albin (bass) and Dave Getz (drums) have been playing together for 59 years and continue to bring this legendary music that they created with Janis to audiences all over the world. Darby Gould of Jefferson Starship will front the band with her soaring vocals.
