Virginia City to feature 'old fashioned' Christmas on the Comstock celebration
It can be difficult to get away from the commercialism of Christmas and the holidays with all the fuss about best deals and “red cups.” Step back in time this season and capture the family-friendly spirit of Christmas with a trip to historic Virginia City, Nev.
“Christmas on the Comstock is not just one day, it’s a month-long celebration that feels like how Christmas is supposed to be,” Deny Dotson, tourism director for the Virginia City Tourism Commission, said. “If you want to have a fun family excursion away from the hustle and bustle, a trip to Virginia City is well worth your while.”
Located a short drive from Carson City and just minutes from downtown Reno, Christmas on the Comstock is a month-long holiday celebration beginning Dec. 5, 2015.

Boutique Holiday Shopping: Explore shops like Forever Christmas, From the World and many more for unique gifts. December hours vary. Contact the stores or the Visitors Center for details.
Photos with Father Christmas: Stop by the Virginia City Visitors Center at 86 South C Street to meet Father Christmas and create a holiday memory, Nov. 27-29, Dec. 4-6, 11-13 and 18-20 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Call 775-847-7500 for more information.
The Candy Cane Express Trains: Create holiday memories aboard the Candy Cane Express Holiday Train on the famous Virginia & Truckee Railroad. Delight with visits from the Candy Cane Sisters while sipping hot chocolate, spiced apple cider and enjoying delicious cookies and candy canes. Purchase tickets online.
Christmas on the Comstock Parade of Lights: Bundle up and gather along C Street for Virginia City’s only evening parade and watch as the town lights up with Christmas cheer. Time: 5 p.m.
Christmas in the Sierra – Concert with David John & The Comstock Cowboys: Bring your cowboy boots and Santa hat to this boot-stomping good time with David John and the Comstock Cowboys for a country Christmas concert at Piper's Opera House. Purchase tickets online. Concert starts at 7:30p.m. Doors open at 6:30p.m. Price: $25
All month-long shops offer holiday specials along with the holiday cheer often forgotten at big-box stores and malls.
