Former cage fighter nabs suspect burglarizing his car
An 18-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony burglary and assault charges after he was caught allegedly burglarizing a vehicle and then threatened the car owner with a buck knife, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Zachary Pagano is being held in the Carson City Jail on $43,879 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 1100 block area of South Nevada Street at 9:19 p.m. Arriving officers learned the victim and owner of the vehicle had the man detained. The victim told deputies that he saw Pagano inside his Subaru looking through the glove compartment. The victim told officers when he realized it was a vehicle burglary, he confronted Pagano, who then went after him with a buck type knife, swinging the blade, the arrest report states.
When deputies arrived on scene and made contact, the vehicle owner stated Pagano was trying to cut him using the knife. The vehicle owner stated that he was an ex-cage fighter, and so in the process of defending himself, he disarmed Pagano, taking the knife away from him while holding him inside the Subaru, the arrest report states.
The vehicle owner yelled to his neighbor to call 911. He stated that while he was waiting for deputies to arrive, Pagano pled with him to let him go, saying he would likely go to prison, the arrest report states.
Deputies arrested Pagano at 9:21 p.m. and read him his Miranda rights. The neighbor who called 911 also witnessed Pagano inside the Subaru before the confrontation. Both the neighbor and the car owner said they had never seen Pagano before, the arrest report states.
During the confrontation Pagano had a backpack on him and used a flashlight inside the vehicle which was turned on, the vehicle owner told deputies. Several items from the backpack were dropped onto the driveway. Officer collected a glass marijuana smoking pipe and the flashlight. When Pagano was contacted he emitted a strong odor of alcohol. He was given a preliminary breath test withe a result of .095, the arrest report states.
He faces the following charges: Burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor consuming alcohol.

— A 31-year-old St. Paul, Minn., man, Daran Acevedo, was booked Sunday, 10:15 a.m. into Carson City Jail Sunday on a felony warrant charge, violation of parole conditions. He’s being held without bail pending a hearing.
— A 25-year-old Carson City turned himself into Carson City Jail deputies Sunday, 9:43 a.m. on a misdemeanor battery warrant issued Nov. 6, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.
— A 19-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 8:48 a.m. in the 1700 block of Rhone Street on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued Nov. 12, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.
— A 21-year-old transient was booked into jail Sunday, 5:30 p.m. on a misdemeanor warrant charge, violation of a suspended sentence, issued Oct. 14, 2014 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
