DuBois' Health Food Center, Carson City's oldest wellness shop, moves to new location

Carson City's DuBois' (doo-bwah) has been serving the capital city community for nearly 60 years, providing supplements, health food, dried herbs, and wellness products to its customers.

DuBois' has long been located in its corner shop on Highway 50 E. near The Box Store, but now it has opened its new location just down Carson Street right next to the Grocery Outlet.

The new location officially opened Friday, Nov. 12 after a brief set back in opening, according to the sign posted on the shop's door.

Dubois' is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday, and is closed on Sunday and Monday.

The Brewery Arts Center, Carson City’s premiere epicenter for the arts since 1975, is hosting a screen writer’s workshop taught by Carson City’s own Sean Mick.

The workshop will take place Saturday, March 2 in the Brewery Art Center’s 1864 Grand Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A man and woman were arrested Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 21, respectively, in connection with a residential burglary investigation in Carson City.

Stephanie Baumgardner and Leonard Martinez, both of Carson City, were taken into custody by Carson City Sheriff's deputies and detectives while investigating the burglary of a disabled resident on Beverly Drive.

This Saturday is all about film appreciation around the area. The Carson City International Film Festival wraps up today inside the newly renovated Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, while the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival occurs at CVIC Hall in Minden.

For the sixth year in a row, music and skating will be brought to Reno in an all day, all ages party and skate competition. This year, Carson City’s own Wheel House will be sponsoring the event along with Suffix Skateboarding.

The event will be held at Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor in Reno, located at 71 S. Wells Avenue, from noon to midnight.

The Flying Pig Flea Market will come once again to Fuji Park for an indoor flea market this Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.

Attendees can expect art, antiques, collectibles, and lots and lots of miscellaneous.

The Carson City School District February meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, beginning at 7 p.m.

One item on the table for discussion is the adoption of “Schools for Climate Change,” described as a non-partisan, grassroots, youth-adult campaign with a mission to empower schools to speak up for climate change in order to protect current and future generations.

A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2200 block of E. William Street under the suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, suspicion of destroying or concealing evidence, and misdemeanor suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession.

On Friday, February 15, 2019, a missing person was reported to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. The missing person is Rudy Martinez, 35 years of age, approximately five feet, eight inches tall and 161 pounds.

Rudy was last seen leaving his home on Mica Drive on February 08, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Rudy left on foot, and did not take his wallet or cell phone.

Rudy is new to the area, and it is unknown where he might have gone. Due to the recent weather conditions, there is concern for Rudy’s welfare.

A two-vehicle crash in the southbound lanes of South Carson Street at the Clear Creek Road intersection is currently blocking southbound Carson Street traffic.

One person is being checked for minor injuries. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

Motorists should expect some delays in the area, especially in the southbound lanes of South Carson Street.

In its 34th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company has announced Jared Marchegger of Sierra Lutheran High School as its 2018-19 Gatorade Nevada Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Marchegger is the second Gatorade Nevada Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from Sierra Lutheran High School.

The varsity boys basketball program at Sierra Lutheran High School in Carson City celebrated its first-ever Western 1A Conference championship Tuesday by defeating Excel Christian of Sparks, 59-23, earning first-place league honors.

"It was a very special evening for these Senior boys tonight," SLHS Boys Basketball Head Coach Ben Walther said. "I was proud of their teamwork and camaraderie."

A Gardnerville man was warned Feb. 3 of deteriorating weather conditions east of a Fullerton, Calif., airport but took off in the airplane toward the east, the National Transportation Safety Board reported.

CARSON CITY — Initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits in Nevada fell to 11,390 in January, down nearly 12 percent relative to last January’s reading, and the lowest reading for initial claims in the Silver State since 1994, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
