Carson City to be center focus in Reno-Tahoe International Airport's 'Taking Flight' art exhibit
The Carson City Arts: Taking Flight Inaugural Art Exhibition at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport will host an opening reception on Tuesday, Feb. 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the new art installation in the airport, featuring artists from Carson City.
The exhibition features 54 artists from the Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition, the Nevada Artists Association, and Western Nevada College's Art Faculty.
The opening reception on Feb. 26 will feature Mayor Bob Crowell as speaker, in addition to special events and prizes given out during the reception courtesy of the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority.
Presentation and awards will be held at 6 p.m.
“My intent in meeting with the airport back in September 2018 was to research and develop a platform to unify and highlight Carson City’s art organizations during the 2019 Legislative Session," said Carson City's Arts and Culture Coordinator Mark Salinas. "I foresee this inaugural exhibition yielding a future relationship with the Reno-Tahoe Airport to beautify the airport while creating exposure for our Carson City artists.”
Guests are welcome so long as they RSVP no later than Feb. 22, and guests should expect to go through TSA security as if boarding a flight. So far, almost 100 people have RSVP'd for the occasion, according to Salinas.
