Carson Tahoe Health puts hold on elective surgeries, other services due to COVID-19 spikes
Carson City and our Northern Nevada region are seeing a slow, but steady increase in the number of COVID cases. Noticing this, and acting on recommendations from the U.S. Surgeon General and the American College of Surgeons, Carson Tahoe decided to temporarily suspend non-emergent or non-time-sensitive surgeries through Nov. 22, in which time it will be reevaluated.
This allows us to address the new resurgence of COVID cases and utilize our available resources to ensure a safe and healthy environment for those who receive and provide care through our facilities. Emergency surgeries/procedures have not been suspended.
Carson Tahoe Health is closely monitoring its bed and ventilator capacities, and making adjustments as needed to best serve our community.
Earlier this year, as a precaution in the event of a surge, we increased our number of negative pressure rooms and continue to gauge our potential need for additional isolation rooms, ventilators, PPE, and our overall bed capacity.
Additionally, Carson Tahoe has temporarily closed the lab & EKG services at Sierra Surgery (beginning Nov. 11) until further notice to allow resources to be reallocated.
If people looking for lab/EKG services, we’re asking them to go to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center or Carson Tahoe Specialty Medical Center (lab only).
All imaging services, including the Breast Center, are still open at Sierra.
