18-year-old Gardnerville man identified in fatal Washoe County crash
Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol has identified a Gardnerville man who died Oct. 19 from injuries in a crash on I-80 and Robb Drive in Washoe County.
Ezra Galvez, an 18-year-old male from Gardnerville, died at the scene of the crash, reported at approximately 1:29 a.m., according to NHP in a news release.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Jeep Liberty was traveling wrong-way, eastbound in the westbound travel lanes of IR80 westbound in the number two travel lane.
A 2017 Peterbilt semi tractor towing two flatbed trailers was traveling westbound on IR80W in the number two travel lane. The driver of the semi tractor swerved to avoid collision, the release states.
Ezra Galvez, who was the driver of the 2007 Jeep Liberty, input steering right and the front of the Jeep struck the front of the tractor in the number one travel lane. After the impact, the Jeep caught fire, according to the NHP report. The driver of the semi tractor remained on-scene and is cooperating authorities.
The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Northern Command West Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating this crash.
