Snow showers in Carson City; slick driving conditions throughout region, eastbound I-80 closed at Gold Ranch
An early season winter storm has brought snow showers to the Carson City area Wednesday morning and travel issues throughout the region and upper elevations as snow continues to accumulate in the Sierra.
Light snowfall continues around Carson City this morning, with the snow sticking in some areas as temperatures hover in the low 30s. Lake effect snow has also been noted to the east side of Lake Tahoe affecting Washoe Valley and Virginia City areas, according to the National Weather Service.
I-80 east is closed at Gold Ranch this morning after a crash that involved multiple semis and a car. No serious injuries were reported, according to Truckee Meadows Fire.

Chains and snow tires are required over Sierra passes as the storm continues to shift southward with a moist westerly flow keeping snow showers moving and at times spilling over into lower elevations.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for the western slope of the Sierra, and a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for the greater Lake Tahoe area, with snow accumulations of an additional 1 to 3 inches at lake level and 3 to 6 inches above 7,000 feet.
