Carson City arrests: Man booked over weekend for 6 alleged vehicle burglaries
A 35-year-old man was arrested Saturday for multiple counts of alleged vehicle burglary, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Casey Thomas McKenna was taken into custody at 9:40 p.m. following an investigation. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to the area of Koontz Lane for a vehicle burglary in progress. Dispatch advised a man was opening car doors and going through vehicles.
Deputies arrived and located a group of individuals, three of them being victims. The individuals advised they saw the suspect go westbound but lost sight of him, the arrest report states. While traveling westbound, a deputy located two car doors open and were waved down by the original people that said they saw the man attempting to enter another vehicle.
Detectives were able to get a drone in the air and located the suspect running. A sergeant and detective located the suspect running at them. They took the suspect, McKenna, to the ground and placed him in handcuffs.
He was read his Miranda warning and he chose not to speak. While searching the area for evidence, patrol units on scene were able to locate the following vehicles that were burglarized:
— A Chevy where a credit card and charger were stolen;
— A Dodge Ram with $4,700 cash stolen, as well as an iPhone, a black purse with license and credit cards and a gray purse;
— A Hyundai where doors were open with intent to steal unknown items;
— A Hyundai with stuffed animals stolen, glove box was open with intent to steal items;
— A Toyota with doors open, center console open, glove box open with intent to steal unknown items;
— A Mitsubishi that had a pink backpack stolen and jumper cables stolen.
Several other items were found scattered through the complex and near the burglarized vehicles that unknown victims did not claim. Those items were taken to the Carson City Sheriff's Office Evidence Room and booked as stolen and recovered.
All other items were booked as stolen and recovered and returned to owners, the arrest report states.
Deputies booked McKenna for six counts of vehicle burglary, (one first and five second or more) and one count resisting a public officer. Bail: $5,000.
In other arrests:
— A 42-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of attempted residential burglary, possession of a controlled substance and other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Luis Daniel Jimenez was taken into custody at 11:04 p.m. following an investigation. He was also booked for misdemeanor resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the booking report, deputies responded to an East Fifth Street residence for a report of a residential burglary.
Deputies spoke with the reporting party who stated they were outside and observed a man attempting to enter an apartment. The man was wearing a blue puffy jacket, a hat and had a skateboard in his hand. The reporting party said they saw the man approach a back porch and hit the sliding screen door with his skateboard, causing it to open. The RP saw the man leave going east of the apartment complex, the report states.
A deputy observed a man matching the description exit the apartment complex's laundry room. A deputy instructed the man to walk to the officer with his hands in the air. The man made several attempts to reach into his pockets. The officer drew his weapon and gave lawful commands to put his hands in the air, the report states.
A sergeant arrived on scene. The man refused to follow orders. Officers grabbed the man to the ground, where the man continued to pull his arm away. He was pepper sprayed in order to subdue him, the report states. He complied and was arrested.
Carson City Fire Department arrived and assessed the man for any injuries. It was determined he did not have any injuries that required medical attention. A deputy inspected the apartment in question and observed the front window screen taken off and left on the ground near the window.
A deputy spoke with the apartment's resident who arrived on scene who identified the man as an ex-boyfriend who said they were harassing them, spitting on their window and breaking their windshield wiper, the report states.
A sergeant spoke with the suspect under Miranda. He stated he hit the front door and rear sliding door with his skateboard and admitted to taking the screen from the front window that night and had done so in the past. It was determined he did not live at the residence.
He was taken to jail and booked where a glass pipe containing a white powder substance was in the man's left pocket. He was booked for attempted residential burglary, possession of a controlled substance and resisting an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail: $10,000.
— A 37-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday for a misdemeanor violation of bail conditions warrant. Bail: $3,000 cash.
— A 51-year-old Carson City man, Robert Rhinehart, was arrested Friday for suspicion of having a marijuana grow operation at a Desatoya Drive residence and for suspicion of manufacturing and processing marijuana.
According to the booking report, the Carson City Sheriff's Official Special Enforcement Team was contacted where an anonymous report was made regarding a marijuana grow at the residence. The reporting party told dispatch the grow was in the backyard and there was a heavy odor coming from the plants.
Deputies arrived and met with the man who was in a camp trailer next to the driveway on the property. The door was open and the officer could see the man sitting at the table holding a large jar of marijuana. Officers observed multiple marijuana stems on the table, the report states. He was asked to step outside. He was told CCSO was there for a possible marijuana grow. He was read his Miranda warning and agreed to speak. The man was asked how many ounces were in the trailer. The main replied at least 3 ounces of marijuana was in the trailer.
The man gave officers consent to search, where several jars of marijuana were on the table where the man was sitting. Officers looked over to the bathroom and saw approximately 30 stems with marijuana hanging off a wire being dried by a fan and one additional stem with marijuana hanging over a bed area.
SET collected all the stems and filled up a black trash bag full of the hanging marijuana. Multiple jars of marijuana were found and labeled for different strains of marijuana, the report states. On top and on the side of the kitchen stove were two pans full of marijuana shake. A SET officer collected the shake and filled a gallon zip lock bag with it.
There were multiple marijuana stems throughout the trailer. SET seized all the items and later booked them into evidence. With the amount seized, it was well over the legal amount of 2.5 ounces, the report states. The full amount was not available in the booking report.
