Letter to the editor: A Modest Proposal
To the editor: We all were exposed to “Political Theatre” at its best and worst. The drama, fear mongering, and name-calling, with the same old threats seems old and tired today. It was a very bad, long movie, especially because everybody knew how it would end. But, we went ahead and spent millions to display the ineptness of our entire Government.
Increasingly millions of Americans are angry and worried. Most of us want to preserve the foundation of our beautiful America, land of opportunity, and we want our freedoms that we fought so hard to secure. One of the greatest of our freedoms is choice. That basic right is now in jeopardy.
It’s totally reasonable that we as taxpayers, who foot the bills for the follies of our nation’s capital, should help curb the superfluous spending that is out of control. I believe the members of Congress and the Administration along with their staffs should be given the option to purchase their own health care from the exchanges set up by Obamacare. They should have the choice of having the 72% subsidy of tax dollars pay for their health insurance, or pay it themselves. The choice on this issue alone would be a tremendous help to voters in the next election.
A simple public tallying of the choice enables constituents to know how their elected officials want to secure mandatory health care. It could be an excellent jump start to the budget talks and perhaps set a tone for the effort to reduce spending during the holiday season. We, the People include many without jobs and cannot subsidize those we employ as our representatives. Carson City officials should be prudent too.
Obviously, truer today than yesterday, NO ONE IS MINDING OUR COUNTRY!
