Carson City arrests: Man held for allegedly threatening student, throwing rocks at school
A 43-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in the area of Fall and William Street for allegedly trying to fight a Pioneer High School student and throwing rocks at the school.
The man, who suffers mental health issues, was arrested for suspicion of threats of bodily harm to a student, a gross misdemeanor. He also faces two misdemeanor charges of probation violation.
According to the arrest report, the suspect had approached the student, who was near the school on Corbett Street, in an aggressive manner. The suspect allegedly was in a fighting stance, with his hands clenched into a fist. The 18-year-old student said the suspect said something similar that he would beat his ass, the arrest report states, and then, reportedly, threw a punch at the student but missed.
The suspect was then observed by students and administrators as talking nonsensically, and throwing rocks at the school, the report states.
School Resource Officers and deputies had been looking for the man earlier that morning after a 15-year-old student said she was followed to the school by the man, who was described as wearing lipstick smeared over his mouth, the report states.
The student stated they were followed closely and that the man kept asking if they were scared. The student kept walking to school and had seen him on Corbett Street, the same area where the suspect allegedly went after the 18-year-old student, according to the report.
The suspect was taken into custody for suspicion of threatening bodily harm to a student as it was a school day, while school was in session, with the incident happening across the street from the school during lunch time and was witnessed by the school principal.
Deputies observed the man as having mental health issues and that he has been known by the sheriff's office Mobile Outreach Safety Team, which works with those with mental illness.
A Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing Officer arrived on scene and confirmed the man is on their caseload, and charged him with two counts of probation violation. Bail: $8,500.
