NHP joins forces with Nevada's law enforcement agencies to focus on impaired drivers
The Nevada Highway Patrol and other Nevada law enforcement agencies participating in Joining Forces will be combining resources from Oct. 18 through Nov. 4, 2019 to apprehend impaired drivers.
Each and every year, motorists across Nevada are killed or injured because someone made the mistake of driving impaired. Impaired driving is not just alcohol; it is anything that impairs your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Impaired driving not only puts your life and the lives of others in danger, but the cost of driving under the influence is extremely high. Drivers that are driving impaired can expect the average cost of a DUI to exceed $10,000 with legal fees, court fines, and higher insurance rates, along with jail time, DUI classes, and license suspensions.
Being a responsible driver is simple: if you are drinking, do not drive. Designate a sober driver, plan to take public transportation or a ride-share service. If a friend or family member is impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements to get home safely.
This Joining Forces campaign reflects the unwavering mission of the Nevada Highway Patrol and its dedication to keeping the public safe by finding, investigating, and apprehending persons driving while impaired on Nevada’s highways. In other news, the Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West has received a grant in the amount of $114,000 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement’s participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.
Joining Forces is a high visibility, multi-jurisdiction statewide effort to increase safety on Nevada’s roads by increasing enforcement and awareness of traffic laws. The goal is to reduce crashes and save lives by focusing on impaired driving, distracted driving, seat belt use, speed, and pedestrian safety.
Thanks to this grant award, Nevada Highway Patrol Northern Command West will be able to team up with other area jurisdictions for a number of Joining Forces events from October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020.
Law enforcement personnel will continue to enforce traffic safety laws year-round as part of their commitment to reduce crashes and save lives. Whether you are a driver, a passenger, or a pedestrian, the Nevada Highway Patrol reminds everyone to make safety on our roadways a top priority.
