Carson City Sheriff's Office requests public's help identifying theft suspect

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with identifying and locating an unidentified man who on August 14th, 2021 at about 5:00 pm stole a wallet from a purse.

The victim was shopping at Costco looking at items in the isles. Her purse was in her shopping cart.

She was not far from her shopping cart when the suspect removed the wallet from her purse.

The following photographs was taken from video surveillance footage and depicts the suspect. The suspect may be a white or Hispanic male who was wearing a white colored shirt with “DKNY” logo on the front, has black hair, blue jeans, white and black tennis shoes, and green hat.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Builders Foundation and JOIN Inc. have partnered to recruit recent high school graduates for a new summer internship program, promoting careers in the construction industry. Beginning in July, qualifying individuals can receive up to three months’ worth of pay, provided through JOIN, while they learn applicable workforce skills.

The Carson City Symphony's 2022 annual Pops Party concert will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at the Capital Amphitheater, in the park between the Capitol and Legislature buildings. Admission is free.

Carson City area casinos saw April gaming revenue increase 2.23 percent compared to April 2021 figures, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board's latest monthly report.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Carson City Library Board of Trustees. This Committee oversees all Library policy and budgets. Applicants must be willing to serve approximately six to eight hours a month.

UPDATE: Highway 50 at Dayton Hill is open with no restrictions. No injuries were reported, only property damage, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Central Lyon Fire and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office responded Sunday afternoon to a vehicle crash on Highway 50 and Dayton Hill. The crash happened in the westbound lane. Injuries are unknown at this time. Motorists can expect delays.

To the Carson High Boys Track team, who won the State 5A Academic State Championship for boys Track and Field and was recognized at the meet for that accomplishment May 21. Carson High has won over 90 State Academic Championships in Athletics since the award was instituted.

On Tuesday, May 31, from 7am-5pm, portions of Carson St, Rice St, and Corbett St will be closed due to tree work at the Foreman-Roberts House.

UPDATE 4:14 p.m. the man has, thankfully, agreed to come down safely. First responders are with him now. The freeway will reopen shortly.

Nevada State Police NHP Troopers have been called to shut down traffic on I-580 near Fairview and Koontz due to a potential suicide threat.

A man is reportedly standing on the Koontz overpass threatening to jump. First responders are on scene with him.

The Capital City’s military police element – the 137th Military Police Detachment – is set to become the Nevada Army Guard’s next unit to support an international mission.

About three dozen of the unit’s military policemen and women are set to deploy to Romania this summer and support European Command.

The Soldiers are set to perform law and order missions on an Army base located in Romania. Law and order missions on the base will include: force protection, physical security and anti-terrorism measures.

CARSON CITY — Western Nevada Development District announced that after a national search, the Board has selected Christine Brandon as the organization’s new Executive Director. Brandon, a long time Carson City resident, was appointed to her new role on May 24, 2022.

The Annual Stewart Father’s Day Powwow was canceled last year due to COVID-19, but is returning this year along with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum.

The annual powwow is free and open to the public, and includes food vendors, competition dancing, arts and crafts vendors, and dry camping.
