Carson City Attorney Ryan Russell to Run for Justice of the Peace
Carson City attorney Ryan Russell announced his candidacy Friday for Carson City Justice of the Peace, Municipal Court Judge Department 2, hoping to replace the highly respected Judge John Tatro, who is retiring.
Russell is currently a partner with the Allison MacKenzie law firm in Carson City. He also serves as Judge Pro Tem for the Carson City Justice and Municipal Courts, Special Master for the Carson City Juvenile Court and is on the State Bar of Nevada’s Board of Governors.
Russell believes his experience as Judge Pro Tem gives him a unique insight into the importance of the Justice Court system. “This position is extremely important. A judge is dealing with people’s lives and liberties. Experience, compassion and fairmindedness are key.”
Russell says as Justice of the Peace he will continue the progress and good work the justice court system has made. “I think our courts are serving the community well. I will support the drug court, as well as the mental health court and work to make them even more effective. I believe it is often better to help rehabilitate someone rather than just punish them,” he said.
Russell is a Carson City native and graduate of Carson High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno and graduated from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
He is a current member and Past President of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada and is also a member of the Rotary Club of Carson City.
Russell lives in Carson City with his wife and three children.
