Elderly Carson City woman identified in Tuesday's fatal crash on Highway 50 and Airport Road
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a 92-year-old Carson City woman who died in a vehicle crash Tuesday evening on Highway 50 East and Airport Road.
Virginia Baronian, a 92-year-old Carson City resident, died as a result of the crash after she was thrown from the vehicle where she was a passenger, according NHP Trooper Hannah DeGoey.
On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, at approximately 6:09 p.m., NHP troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash involving three vehicles at US-50 and Airport Road in Carson City.
Preliminary investigation shows that a blue 2000 Chevrolet Impala was traveling eastbound on US-50 approaching Airport Road. The Impala failed to yield to the red traffic signal and entered the intersection.
The Impala struck a white 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV traveling northbound on Airport Road and a silver 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan traveling southbound on Airport Road, said NHP Trooper DeGoey.
The Impala overturned and came to rest on its roof. The front passenger, Virginia Baronian, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. Baronian was later pronounced deceased at a local area hospital.
US-50 was closed for an extended period of time for the investigation until all travel lanes were reopened at approximately 10:24 p.m.
