UPDATE: Carson City landfill fire knocked down at 2.5 acres
UPDATE 5:38PM: Mop up work is underway at the landfill fire, according to Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire was around 2.5 acres in size and was fueled largely by windy conditions.
There was a brief threat outside the dump's boundaries, but it was quickly put down. The Carson City Sheriff's Office put a drone in the air to make sure there wasn't an extension, Pedrini said. The area that burned was made up of decomposed trash that likely combusted. There were no injuries.

Carson City Fire Department responded Sunday afternoon to a fire at the landfill off of Highway 50 East, one of many fires at the landfill over the years.
At around 2:30 p.m. multiple calls came into Carson City dispatch from the rifle range area regarding the fire. Multiple fire engines are responding and other agencies have been notified.
The landfill is located at 3600 Flint Rd., in east Carson City.
Fires at the Carson City landfill have been quite common over the years, with many believed to be started by discarded batteries.
People should avoid the area.
