Howie Nave takes his comedy to Carson City this weekend
Comedian Howie Nave is taking his show on the road, this time to the Carson Comedy Club inside the Carson Nugget Sept. 7-8.
Many around South Lake Tahoe know Howie from his number one morning drive radio show "Howie's Morning Rush" on KRLT-FM (krltfm.com) and from his years of comedy on the South Shore. He has long been a staple in the world of stand up. How long? There's a plaque with his name on it near the entrance of South Lake Tahoe that's he's called home now for almost 18 years.
"Okay, it's more a historical marker because I've been around that long," says Howie. He's appeared on NBC's "Last Comic Standing," Comedy Central and most recently in the television pilot, "Casino Boss" that stars Saturday Night Live alumni Joe Piscopo.
Over the years Howie has opened for a wide variety of artists ranging from the late Robin Williams to Neil Young, Trisha Yearwood, Louie Anderson, Howie Mandell, “Weird Al” Yankovic and has the distinction of being the last guy to open for the late, great Johnny Cash out on the west coast.
Howie actually got his start writing original comedy songs for the nationally syndicated “Dr. Demento” radio program which lead to his touring with "Weird Al." Some of his original songs include “Your Father Was Once my Mother,” “I was Born the Wrong Religion all Because of Circumcision,” “Freaks on the Internet,” “I Want a Part Time Girl for Christmas” and “It's Hard to be a Jewish Cowboy When You Want to Date a Country Girl.”
Of all the places Howie has performed at his favorite is still the shows he did performing for our troops in Iraq and Kuwait. As Howie puts it, "They were the best audience ever and so appreciative to hear both the stand up and the comedy songs several of which I would make up on the spot just for them for at whatever FOB I was performing at. Being from a military family and being the only one not in the military my family said this more than made up for it getting our troops to laugh."
Howie has six Facebook pages (find one or more to like) and you can follow him on Twitter @ Howie Nave Comedian. He also has two CDs out and is currently working on his third one.
The shows at the Carson Comedy Club are September 7 and 8. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. each night with showtime at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/producer/373092.
