Accused kidnapper of Carson City child enters 'Alford' guilty plea, faces 5 years to life in prison
On May 4, 2020, Kahlil Deshaun Williams was arrested at Mills Park in Carson City for kidnapping, attempted sexual assault of a minor under 14, lewdness with a minor under 14, and false imprisonment after allegedly kidnapping a young girl as she waited for the school bus to bring her lunch.
Williams allegedly offered the child a dollar, got her into his car and drove her to an empty parking lot where he attempted to sexually assault her.
Williams was identified following a press release issued by the Carson City Sheriff's Office which contained photos of Williams' vehicle and a description of the suspect given by the victim.
The court heard numerous testimonies, including those of the victim, during the June 5 preliminary hearing.
According to Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury, on Tuesday, Williams entered an "Alford" plea of guilty to kidnapping in the first degree, a category A felony.
"An Alford plea is a procedure by which the Defendant does not admit actual guilt, but enters a plea of guilty because he believes the prosecution has sufficient evidence to secure a conviction at trial, and deems pleading guilty to be in his best interest," said Woodbury. "His plea was entered September 1."
Williams is facing two possible sentences.
"Under the law, Mr. Williams can be sentenced to either: (1) life in prison with the possibility of parole after a minimum of 5 years of incarceration; or (2) 15 years in prison with the possibility of parole after a minimum of 5 years of incarceration," said Woodbury.
He is scheduled to be sentenced October 6, 2020.
