Man jailed on DUI charges after allegedly hitting parked vehicles, leaving the scene
A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested on misdemeanor DUI and hit and run charges early Monday after allegedly hitting at least three parked vehicles on Sonoma Street and leaving the scene without reporting it, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The man was taken into custody at his Klatt Drive home after eyewitnesses followed the 2010 Mazda to a residence from the 1600 block of Sonoma Street. According to the arrest report, an officer went to the residence where the man’s parents let him inside to make contact with their son. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and had fresh damage to its body.
At first the man, who emitted a very strong odor of alcohol, denied that he was driving the Mazda but his mother told him to tell the truth. He said he had just come home and was driving the Mazda and that he hit a car, the arrest report states.
He then said that he hadn’t had anything to drink since arriving home. He was arrested and advised of his Miranda rights which he understood and continued to talk with the officer. He said that he ran into at least three parked cars while driving his car and then drove off trying to get home, the arrest report states.
He was taken to jail where he agreed to submit to standardized field sobriety tests but refused to submit to a preliminary breath test. The man was informed that he was under arrest for driving under the influence causing an accident. He was then read the Nevada Implied Consent and did not object to having his blood drawn because of being involved in an accident. At 1:35 a.m. a phlebotomist drew 2 blood samples from the man.
He faces the following charges: Driving under the influence of alcohol, hit and run causing property damage and failure to report an accident. Bail: $2,411.
