Bureau of Land Management's Carson District removes 45 vehicles abandoned on public land

U.S. Bureau of Land Management law enforcement recently removed approximately 45 abandoned vehicles illegally dumped on public land. Many of the vehicles were removed from the Mound House area east of Carson City and north of Reno in the Sun Valley area.

Every year the BLM Carson City District Office receives hundreds of complaints from concerned public reporting trash sites/abandoned vehicles on public lands. When individuals cannot be held responsible for their illegal acts, the expense of cleaning up sites such as these is often funded through the use of taxpayer’s money.

The BLM is charged with managing vast stretches of public land — about 67 percent of Nevada — for a variety of activities, including grazing, recreation, mining, wild horses and conservation. The agency has seen a significant rise in abandoned vehicles, according to a June 2019 news story in The Nevada Independent.
