Driver injured after hitting boulder in roadway on State Route 28 at Lake Tahoe
One person suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries early Tuesday morning after hitting a four-foot boulder that rolled into the roadway on State Route 28, 3 miles north of Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The incident was reported at around 5:50 a.m. The adult male driver was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance, said NHP Trooper Dan Gordon. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.
The accident closed the highway near Sand Harbor, which reopened just before 8 a.m. The boulder also took down a large tree, which was also removed from roadway from a Nevada Department of Transportation crew.
Right now troopers are investigating whether the boulder was stationary on the highway when the driver hit it or if the boulder rolled into the driver as he was traveling.
We will update this story when more information becomes available.
