This year, Carson Tahoe Health is celebrating an amazing milestone — the 10th anniversary of HopeFest! Ten years of celebration, ten years of hope and healing, ten years of community. Hopefest is CTH’s annual community-wide celebration that raises funds explicitly to support the critical needs of our local cancer patients and funding the no-cost Merriner Cottages.

Heading into Thursday, happenings lined up include a monthly meeting of the Carson City Native and Newcomers, a preserving history workshop through the Nevada State Archives, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, an introduction into improv comedy at the Brewery Arts Center, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more. Heading into the first Thursday in March and we're looking at continued sunshine with a high near 70. Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. Heading into the backend of the work week, events lined up Thursday include day 1 of the 7th annual International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a free information session on the legal and financial aspects of long-term care hosted by Carson Tahoe Care Center, the Carson City GOP will host a meeting to discuss precinct organization, plus trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and a lecture on women’s suffrage movement history in Nevada. Happenings around the capital city Thursday include a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, the launch of Thursday trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike at Linear Ditch, plus Soroptimist International of Carson City hosts "Celebrating Women Helping Women" at the Carson Nugget. There's also a joint meeting of the school board and the board of supervisors, and a documentary viewing and discussion of "Screenagers" hosted by the Carson City School District. Sunday will bring cool temperatures and some sunshine with daytime highs in the mid 60s around the capital city region. Lined up today are fall train rides in Carson City and Virginia City, a women veteran's support group meeting, and a a discussion with survivors, family and doctors about metastatic breast cancer. Also today, the Carson City Symphony will open its 36th season at the community center. Enjoy.

Your chance of winning bunko is 1 in 12.
In the U.S., a woman’s chance of being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer is 1 in 8.

These odds, and the women and men it affects, is why BHGE has hosted Bunko for Breast Cancer since 2004 donating over $300,000 in support of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

The statistics are staggering. Thirty percent of the people diagnosed with breast cancer go on to get metastatic breast cancer.

Metastatic beast cancer is an incurable disease. It is when breast cancer has spread beyond the breast, possibly to the lymph nodes or other organs in the body. Around 40,000 people a year in the US die from it. It is the advanced part of breast cancer and it is rarely discussed.

Going into its 9th year, Carson Tahoe Health Foundation has brought together musicians and music lovers from throughout Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe for a free summer concert celebration to raise money for area cancer patients. This Friday, HopeFest9 returns, with international platinum-selling singer-songwriter Eric Hutchinson and the Believers.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is excited to announce the official date for their annual fundraiser, HopeFest9. The free summer evening concert will be headlined by Eric Hutchinson, the international platinum-selling singer-songwriter, who captures his audience with his lively music set.

The Clear Creek Bowmen Cancer Shoot is happening again on Sunday, April 28 at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City. There will be 35 3-D targets at unmarked yardages. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Shoot starts at 9 a.m.

Kelly Gustafson, a Carson High School Health Science teacher and HOSA adviser in the Career and Technical Education Department at CHS, provides this week's news regarding a health career competition. She reports the following:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this time every year touches the heart of one of the teachers at CHS: Art teacher Mike Malley, whose mother is a breast cancer survivor, due to early detection, has decided to take breast cancer awareness to a new level by putting on a fundraising event Oct. 18 at the Trimmer Barn from 5 to 8 p.m.

Hold onto your hat, Carson City, we’re in for one heck of a weekend. It’ll be cowboy hats and pioneer bonnets in Genoa for Western Heritage Day. Keep an eye out for Mark Twain, plenty of music, and fun for all. Leis are the preferred accessory for Lei Day at the Nevada State Museum where you’ll be treated to Polynesian surprises and free admission. In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with Carson Tahoe Health Foundation Director Kitty McKay about this summer's annual HopeFest for local cancer patients and fundraising efforts held throughout the year.

Take advantage of the spring sunshine and seize the day. Virginia City roars with the sound of their annual Grand Prix. Beer and brats aren’t usually associated with ballet, but the Sierra Nevada Ballet makes the annual event at the Brewery Arts Center a great time for all. The Earth Spirit Faire wraps up its weekend of wellness at the Community Center. Head to Reno for a Cinco De Mayo Celebration at the Grand Sierra that features musicians, cuisine, and carnival rides.

Belt buckles will be awarded to the 1st place shooter in all adult and youth classes. Tee-shirts for 2nd and 3rd.
There will be a raffle with some great prizes.

Starting Monday, April 18 until Mother’s Day, May 8, Summit Cleaning Services will donate 10 percent of their sales to Food For Thought to help combat local childhood hunger.

“Every year, we try to give back to the community in a real way,” said Stephen Jaenchen, owner of Summit Cleaning Services. In past years, Summit has helped support the NV Children’s Museum, the Carson Tahoe Cancer Resource Center, and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation honored a group of employees from GE Bently Nevada and the Carson Valley Inn for their ongoing efforts in support of local cancer patients in need. Over the last 12 years, they have donated over $215,000 in funds raised in support of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, an affiliate of Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, during their annual GE Bunko for Breast Cancer event held at the Carson Valley Inn.
