Nevada Highway Patrol reports fatal crash on Highway 50 near Dayton

The Nevada Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash that happened at around 5 p.m. Wednesday night on Highway 50 and Occidental Drive east of Dayton. There are two vehicles involved with two confirmed driver fatalities, according to NHP.

The eastbound lane of Highway 50 is closed near Occidental because of the crash. NHP says motorists can expect lengthy travel delays near the area of the crash and that they should find alternate routes.

There were only the drivers in the vehicles that crashed, said NHP spokesperson Hannah DeGoey. The cause is under investigation. We will update as more information becomes available.

This family-friendly movie will begin after dark.

Movie-goers can bring lawn chairs or sit on the grass to view.

The park is located just off of 4th street in Silver City. There are no bathroom facilities at the park so plan accordingly!

Jeff Glass has been teaching entrepreneurial classes to the youth of Carson City for years, and now, as his students grow up, they’re branching out to run businesses of their own.

One such student is Paul Klemm, the owner of Carson City’s Rehaul.

“Rehaul started as an effort to develop a student run business,” said Glass.

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: Officials are now calling it a “mechanical failure.” Crews continue to search the wreckage for anyone who may be trapped. All streets within a half mile of the campus are closed. Major damage is being reported at Argenta Hall; however, they believe the building was mostly unoccupied at the time of the explosion.

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: So far, reports of 8 people were injured and two have been transferred to the hospital. All classes for the rest of the day have been cancelled.

Starting on July 3, 2019 at 3:00 pm until the morning of July 5, 2019, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office wants to report that a total of 33 arrests were made during the 4th of July holiday.

The unclothed body of a man was found at Bijou Municipal Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe just before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2400 block of N. Carson Street for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a felony warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and home invasion.

UPDATE 10:37PM: Forward progress of the fire off of Stephanie Way has been stopped, according to a battalion chief on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

East Fork Fire and Tahoe Douglas firefighters were called Thursday evening to a brush fire burning in the Johnson Lane area near Stephanie Way in Carson Valley. Also, there was a report of a backyard fire on Brown Street in Carson City.
