Nevada State Railroad Museum steams up with all-day train rides in Carson City
The Nevada State Railroad Museum steamed up the Fourth of July festivities in Carson City on Friday.
The museum’s historic locomotives and trains made an appearance during the “Parade of Trains” event. Paid participants sat down inside while the No. 22 McKeen Motor Car and the Virginia and Truckee steam locomotive No. 25 chugged their way around the tracks.
“We’ve had a really strong couple of days here,” Nevada State Museum Curator Adam Michalski said. “We’re having big crowds and a lot of our trains are filling up. There has been lots of cool trains making their way around town.”
Visitors and attendees can explore Nevada’s rich history with each alternating ride. Several trains and locomotives were built in the 18th and 19th centuries and are still operating to this day with some of its original parts.
“It’s a way to show Nevada’s history,” Michalski said. “We have some of the oldest trains in the United States operating this weekend. You can come out and see and experience Nevada’s heritage.”
Train rides begin at 9:45 a.m. and run until 4 p.m. through Sunday. Visitors can purchase all-inclusive wristbands, that include unlimited train rides for the day and admission into the museum, where they can view the museum’s latest exhibit, “The Transcontinental Railroad: What a Difference it Made.”
Wristbands are priced as follows: Adults 18 years and older, $15; Friends of the Museum Members, $9; Children 12 to 17, $9; Children 4 to 11, $5; Children 3 and under, free.
