Carson City teen dies at Lake Tahoe in water-related accident
A Carson City teenager died Saturday after authorities were called to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe for an accident on the water. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed the victim is a 15-year-old Carson High School student.
The teen’s name has not been released. A chaplain from Carson City has notified the parents, said Furlong. The teen died after he was taken to a Reno hospital after emergency crews were called to Sand Harbor at around noon Saturday. Washoe County authorities would not confirm if it was a possible drowning.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Bob Harmon said the exact cause of the teen’s death has not been determined and the information, along with the teen’s identity, will be made through the Washoe County Medical Examiner.
The incident is not being investigated further because foul play is not suspected. He declined to say if the male teen died of a possible drowning noting it will be the medical examiner to make a statement. He also said that he had not heard from investigators that a boat or personal watercraft were involved.
“It appears to be a very sad, tragic accident on the water,” said Harmon.
At around noon Saturday multiple agencies responded to Sand Harbor on a report of a subject in need of medical attention. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, along with North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District, REMSA and Sand Harbor rangers responded. The teen was taken to the hospital where he was later declared deceased, said Harmon.
