Carson City sheriff's log: Man jailed after making threats at motel

A 70-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at a motel after he allegedly threatened people with knives, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Ronald Bonds was arrested at 6:40 p.m. on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon after officers were called to the motel in the 1400 block of North Carson Street.

When officers arrived they found Bonds n the parking lot with a knife, approximately 2 inches long. Witnesses told officers the man came out of his room with three different knives making threats, shouting and then advanced on them. Witnesses also said Bonds told them to “wait after dark and see what happens.” He was jailed on a felony charge, assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,000.

In other arrests: A 68-year-old woman, Nancy Angell, was arrested Saturday, 1:29 a.m. in the 400 block of East William Street on felony and misdemeanor drug charges. A 53-year-old woman was also booked on a misdemeanor charge of battery.

According to the arrest report, a deputy on patrol observed two vehicles on the west side parking lot of a grocery store. One of the vehicles, a white Dodge van, matched the description of a vehicle belonging to a battery suspect from earlier in the evening.

Officers approached the two vehicles, the other being a Mercury and then conducted interviews. The woman in the van was subsequently arrested on the battery charge.

Angell spoke with officers and appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine. An officer asked if he could use the drug detection canine, Ivo, to search the vehicle. The woman agreed and the dog sniffed the vehicle exterior, alerting to the driver’s side window. The officer, pursuant to the alert, then searched the inside and found a pill bottle with three grams of marijana, several baggies with white residue that tested positive for meth, a marijuana pipe and a "tooter" straw, commonly used to inhale methamphetamine.

Also located were three trazadone tablets in which the woman did not have a prescription. She faces a felony drug charge for the meth, a gross misdemeanor charge for the pills, and misdemeanor charges for the marijuana and paraphernalia. Bail: $6,874. Meanwhile, the 53-year-old woman was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of battery. She had allegedly punched a woman several times earlier that evening in a church parking lot where the two had been to get food from a food truck. Bail: $1,137.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman, Ashley Michele McKnight, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on a felony warrant charge of embezzlement issued August 21, 2015 out Carson City Justice Court on Aug. 21, 2015.

— A 23-year-old Mound House man was arrested Saturday, 3:50 a.m. in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing. Deputies were called to a domestic dispute at a residence. The suspect yelled obscenities at officers, refused to cooperate, would not walk out of the residence when asked and kicked and screamed at officers and the male subject he had been fighting with. Bail: $412.

— A 37-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 9:53 p.m. in the area of Saliman Road and Fairview Drive on suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic. Bail: $1,224.

— A 19-year-old transient was arrested Friday, 4:14 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Edmonds on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued out of Douglas County. Bail: $250.

— A 23-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 10:40 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Edmonds on a misdemeanor charge, violation of a suspended sentence warrant issued out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.

— A 29-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday, 10:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of North Edmonds on a misdemeanor warrant, contempt of court, issued August 18, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $500.

— A 23-year-old Carson City woman as arrested Friday in the 1500 block of East William Street on a misdemeanor warrant charge failure to appear, issued June 30, 2015 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,035.

— A 20-year-old Reno man was arrested Friday, 12:05 p.m. in the 1700 block of Russell Way on misdemeanor charges of occupied hit and run, eluding, obstructing, driving on a revoked license due to DUI and no proof of insurance.

According to the arrest report, an officer observed a silver colored Dodge pickup truck on the right side of Highway 50 East near the I-580 onramp with its emergency flashers on. The officer then observed a maroon Ford Expedition swipe the left side of the Dodge pickup.

The officer activated his lights. The driver of the Ford continued going west on Highway 50 East. The officer followed the Ford to Russell Way. The vehicle turned and then traveled north on East Long Street. The driver then turned on east Long and went west for a half a block, turning into the Foothill Garden apartments. The driver stopped abruptly and skidded. A passenger in the front seat exited the vehicle and ran away through the apartment complex.

The officer made contact with driver who told the officer he didn’t know who the passenger was. He later said the man was his cousin. He was booked on the above charges. Bail: $3,540.
