Concert for Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival moved to Westside Pour House
Musical acts scheduled Saturday night for the Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley Davidson were rained out on the outdoor stage by thunderstorms moving through the area.
A bounce house and water dunk tank set up at the venue were also closed down because of the weather.
Festival Coordinator Don Alexander said the event has been moved indoors to the Westside Pour House, 110 W. Telegraph Street in downtown Carson City.
"When lightning had struck the outdoor stage, we were faced with either having to cancel the concert altogether or find some place indoors," he said.
The severe and wet weather prompted event officials to shut down the stage immediately.
Alexander said the Saturday night headliners will be performing at the Westside Pour House Saturday night.
Sound equipment should be set up and ready to go by 9 p.m., he said.
Although the concert was originally scheduled to last until midnight, the music may be playing even later due to the weather delay.
Prior to the thunderstorm activity, hundreds of people attended the all-day music festival, featuring food trucks, vendors, live auctions, and family-friendly activities.
"This event is great for Carson City as a whole," said Alexander, who estimated that money raised so far has exceed five figures. "Keeping Deputy Howell in our thoughts is a way of remembering what can make us stronger as a community."
Musicians who came to play at the benefit concert agreed. Rednex, a Country Electric Pop group from Europe, traveled to the United States for the first time in its 23-year history to perform at Saturday's benefit concert in Carson City.
"This is our first time in the US, and it means so much to us to perform for such a great cause," Rednex band member Ace Ratclaw said. "Commemorating Deputy Howell in anyway shape or form is an honor for us. The city has been great and supportive throughout this journey as well."
