Fernley man identified in fiery fatal crash near Lovelock earlier this month
Nevada State Police has identified a 51-year-old Fernley man who died in a crash west of Lovelock that involved a tractor-trailer that became engulfed in fire.
James Edward Compau died in the crash, which happened near mile marker 106 at approximately 2 p.m. According to Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, the preliminary investigation indicates the 2005 Peterbilt tractor-trailer combination was traveling westbound on I-80 near mile marker 106.
The tractor trailer-combination left the roadway to the left and struck a concrete barrier, which then went down an embankment and over the divided bridge barrier overturning, according to Nevada State Police. The tractor-trailer combination detached and became fully engulfed in flames, coming to rest on its roof in the dirt area beneath an I-80 overpass.
The crash is being investigated by the Highway Patrol Division’s Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) - Case # 220800107.
