Hot August Nights revs up Friday, Saturday in Virginia City
More than 6,000 vehicles will call the streets of Northern Nevada home for the 32nd Annual Hot August Nights festival. The 10-day celebration commences in the historic mining town of Virginia City this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3-4.
Then it's down the mountainside to the only Official Pre-Kickoff Party and Show-n-Shine at Washoe County Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno, Nev. on Sunday, Aug. 5.
Attendees in Virginia City can enjoy live entertainment and cruising events while kicking off a week of admiration for nostalgic makes and models.
Fans can appreciate classic vehicles while glimpsing into life in the old west. The Classic Car Show-n-Shine on Historic “C” Street takes place on both Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday brings the Celebrity Show-n-Shine, offering trophies and ribbons to the most impressive models in an awards presentation at 3:30 p.m. at Delta Saloon stage. At the conclusion of each evening, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a Classic Car Cruise where spectators can celebrate antique automobiles as they take the streets of Virginia City.
For the first time in Hot August Nights history, the classic car and nostalgia festival will commemorate its roots by hosting the Official Hot August Nights Pre Kick-Off Show-n-Shine and Party in Washoe County’s Rancho San Rafael Regional Park on Sunday, Aug. 5.
Classic vehicles are invited to drive on the grass and showcase their wheels, while attendees admire the hundreds of restored and refurbished vehicles — just like it was on the very first day that Hot August Nights began on August 1, 1986. The event is free and open to all 1976 and older vehicles. The first 200 participants will receive a free Hot August Nights nostalgic poster and an entry into a drawing for a 2019 registration and gift basket.
“Bringing Hot August Nights back to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park this year means that we get to pay homage to our humble beginnings and celebrate the 32 years of tradition of bringing some of the most impressive classic vehicles to Northern Nevada,” said Mike Whan, Executive Director of Hot August Nights. “We are excited to not only recreate memories of the past but also help families and friends make new ones.”
The event’s return to Rancho San Rafael Park brings even more nostalgia and tradition to the festival in a setting that is fun for all ages. Families can partake in the Official Pre Kick-Off Show-n-Shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. where they will be reminded of an era where rock ‘n’ roll ruled the airwaves and classic cars lined the streets. A variety of makes and models from all over the country will be celebrated in the Show-n-Shine, featuring 20 miscellaneous categories. While enjoying the summer day, attendees can delight in live entertainment as well as food from local vendors.
There are over 290 events to choose from throughout the 10-day event, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy at Hot August Nights. For more information and event schedule, visit HotAugustNights.net.
