Mask Mandate returns for Carson City and 11 other counties following high rates of transmission of COVID-19

On Tuesday, Governor Steve Sisolak stated that mask mandates would be returning to 12 of Nevada's 17 counties including Carson City due to a high rate of transmission of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Previously, the mask mandate had been lifted in May for individuals who were vaccinated while indoors but now, masks will be required for all individuals regardless of vaccination status.

The Counties of Storey, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, and Pershing are not included in this new mandate, as their transmission levels have stayed low.

The new mandate will take place on July 30 at 12:01 a.m.

The mandate states:

Effective immediately, Section 4 of Directive 045 is amended to read as follows:

Effective at 12:01 a.m. on the third day following the CDC's release of any guidance related to face coverings, individuals not exempted by Directive 024, Directive 028, or guidance issued by the Nevada Health Response, shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or face covering in a manner consistent with the guidance issued by the CDC, and any subsequent guidance issued by the CDC. This Section does not apply to participants in certain activities or events, including but not limited to: athletes, performers, or musicians, to the extent other directives set forth less restrictive face covering requirements for those participants.

For more information you can read the full directive here.
