Carson City deputies make felony, misdemeanor arrests this weekend
A 40-year-old woman was arrested Sunday in the area of Highway 50 East and Nichols for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and other charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Dawn Rene Grimes of Wellington, Nev., also faces gross misdemeanor suspicion of possession of a prescription drug without a prescription and four misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia, expired registration, no insurance and unlawful turn at an intersection.
According to the arrest report, a sheriff’s deputy made a traffic stop after observing an illegal turn at the intersection of Highway 50 and Airport Road. The deputy learned the vehicle license plates were expired and there wasn’t proof of insurance in the vehicle, which was occupied by the driver and three passengers.
Three of the four occupants had previous history for drugs other than marijuana. A canine did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive.
Inside the woman’s purse on her lap at the time of the arrest deputies located a spoon with meth residue, a baggie with methamphetamine, a police radio which had a means to transmit, a digital scale under the driver’s seat, multiple plastic bags hidden in the dash and a hypodermic device hidden in the passenger door.
Also located was a prescription bottle with one-half tablet of Vicodin which the woman did not have a prescription. Bail: $7,023.
In other arrests:
— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 6:17 p.m. for a misdemeanor failure to appear traffic warrant issued out of Esmeralda County. He also face a misdemeanor window tint violation charge. Bail: $902.
— A 48-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 10:50 p.m. in the 1700 block of East Willam Street for a misdemeanor warrant issued April 17, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.
— A 26-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 4:51 p.m. in the area of 10th and Nevada Street for a misdemeanor warrant, failure to appear, issued April 27, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $3,000.
— A Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 9:41 p.m. in the area of Sherman Lane and Garson Court for gross misdemeanor suspicion of second DUI.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area for a possible residential burglary in progress. An arriving deputy observed a vehicle driving away from the residence with the vehicle license plate matching the plate provided by dispatch.
The deputy conducted a high risk stop due to the nature of the call. The man was detained and instructed to sit on the curb. While speaking the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the man’s breath. He had slurred speech and red, watery eyes. The officer asked the man how much he had to drink. The man replied none and agreed to standardized field sobriety testing.
During the questioning portion, the man was asked what time he started drinking. The man replied around 2 p.m. He provided a breath sample of .206 and was arrested. At jail he denied both breath and blood tests. A search warrant was requested and granted and a blood draw was done. Bail: $2,500.
— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, 3:12 p.m. in the 400 block of West Winnie Lane for misdemeanor suspicion of violation of pre-trial supervision. Bail: $3,000.
— A 37-year-old Carson City man, Jose Vargas-Nuno, was arrested Saturday, 12:53 p.m. in the 2100 block of East William Street for felony parole and probation violation and open container. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area for a man sleeping on the sidewalk while their car was running.
Deputies met with the man, who advised he was waiting for a friend. He could not say who he was waiting for. The man began to sweat profusely and there was a distinct odor of alcohol coming from his person. He provided the deputy with identification. Dispatch advised he was on Parole and Probation with a “no drinking” clause, the arrest report states.
A plastic cup with beer was found int he cup holder of the man’s vehicle and two unopened cans of Modelo beer were found in the vehicle. He provided a preliminary breath test with a .087. He was arrested for suspicion of felony parole and probation violation and open container. He’s being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
