UPDATE 5:25PM: Carson City Fire Department is on scene at a vegetation fire on Sierra Vista Lane. The fire is contained and no structures damaged, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The fire is estimated at 2 acres. Mutual aid was provided by East Fork Fire and Truckee Meadows Fire, they are covering the city while firefighters are battling the blaze. The Carson City Sheriff's Office has closed Sierra Vista at Pinion Hills.

Carson City Fire Department was called late Monday afternoon to a brush fire in the area of Sierra Vista Lane and Carson River Road.

CARSON CITY — The national nonprofit, Feeding the Pets of the Homeless, welcomed the generous donation of pet blankets made by Samantha Amthein and Rachel Bush of local Girl Scout Troop No. 210.

Nineteen colorfully patterned fleece blankets were made by the girl scouts for their "Take Action for Changing the World" project.

Journey of Hope riders arrived at Western Nevada College in Carson City on Friday with the enthusiasm and support of the capital city community. The group of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity members bike ride across the country each year to bring awareness and support to people with disabilities.

Approximately 200 people attended Western Nevada College's Community Night at the Carson City campus on Friday. CARSON CITY — At the close of the school year, the Carson High School NJROTC program was pleased to announce they earned a Distinguished Unit award with Academic Honors. This was the second year in a row the unit has received the recognition.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Carson City man who died in a vehicle crash that happened Thursday on Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe.
