Carson City Library trustees open new search for director
The director position for the Carson City Library is open once again. Library trustees made the decision during a special meeting Friday evening.
“Both the candidate and the alternate declined to accept the offer,” Interim Director Diane Baker told board members. “We are at the point where we need to take the next steps. That brings us here.”
Board member Phyllis Patton advised against going back to the original pool of candidates. “I am sure they have all moved on since then,” she said.
Trustee Amanda Long suggested the board start over in its search.
“In addition to opting for a new pool, I think we need to speed up the process,” Long said.
She advised the board post the position for 30 days, then take one to two weeks to review the applicants and choose a candidate.
Fellow trustees agreed to go back to the drawing board after determining in the May 30 meeting to offer the position to Cyndi O, director of the Nevada Library Cooperative.
However, O turned down the offer. It was then extended to alternate Joe Schweiss, library director in Bullitt County, Ken., who also declined.
The new director will replace Sena Loyd, who resigned the post in February to take a job in the private sector. Loyd served in the position since January 2014.
Potential directors must have a master’s degree in library and information science as well as five years of executive management experience in a library.
The position closes July 17 and salary ranges from $102,731 to $164,361 annually.
The job announcement will be posted nationwide. Go here to see the job posting.
