Fire crews from around region respond to brush fire in Jacks Valley, forward progress stops
UPDATE: The James Loop Fire was mapped at 260 acres. The fire was caused by heavy equipment working on a new home under construction, according to a joint news release from Douglas County, East Fork Fire Protection District and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE 4:43PM: From Douglas County Sheriff's Office via Twitter: Firefighters are making good progress on the James Fire to the north and east side flanks with two helicopters dropping water and 1 fixed wing air tanker dropping retardant. Firefighters continue battling active fire on the west side. Two hand crews have arrived and more coming.

UPDATE 413PM: In a fire that exploded fast threatening homes in the James Canyon area north of Genoa, firefighters have been able to save up to 30 structures thus far that are threatened by the James Fire that started Monday afternoon. Two helicopters, 1 air tanker and more than 100 firefighters continue to battle the blaze. There's no word yet on containment but Douglas County officials say the fire remains at around 50 acres as of 4 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE 3:55PM: Here is the latest from Douglas County reporting at 3:50PM: The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Air tankers with retardant and helicopters with water are sweeping the area. Residents are being allowed into the lower end of Genoa Lakes. Road closures are Jacks Valley Road, Adams Canyon Road, North Alpine View Estates.
Among the agencies fighting the fire under the command of East Fork Fire with the U.S. Forest Service are crews from Alpine County, Lyon County, Carson City, Storey County, BLM, Mason Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Nevada Division of Forestry, and Sparks Fire Department.

UPDATE 3:21PM: East Fork Fire Protection District in unified command with U.S. Forest Service working the 50 acre fire in northern Douglas County near James Canyon Loop. There has been 30 structures initially threatened, and as of 3:10 p.m. there have not been any lost or damaged structures. There are 100 personnel on the fire with 35 pieces of equipment, 2 helicopters, air tanker on order, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office via Twitter.

UPDATE 2:56PM: Here are the James Fire road closures: Jacks Valley Road is closed from Adams Canyon Road to North Alpine View Estates. Residents are allowed through the south on Jacks Valley Road near Genoa Lakes with residents who live in Genoa Lakes II, according to Douglas County.

UPDATE 2:30PM: An evacuation center has been set up at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo, livestock and large animals are being accepted at the Douglas County Fairground at Pinenut Road in Gardnerville, according to Douglas County.
UPDATE 2:15 PM: The fire is burning at James Canyon Loop near Genoa. Jacks Valley Road closed is north of fire near Alpine View and south near Genoa Lakes. Voluntary Evacuations in progress, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
UPDATE 1:53PM: Multiple fire agencies from around the region have been called to fight the fast moving fire, which is threatening homes in the area. The fire, west of Jacks Valley Road north of Genoa, is clearly visible from Carson City.

East Fork Fire Protection District, Tahoe Douglas and Carson City Fire Department were called Monday afternoon to a brush fire burning in Jacks Valley.
The fire was called into dispatch after 1 p.m. Carson City Fire Department was called to help with structure protection. Evacuations are underway. Structures are threatened. The fire is burning near James Canyon Road, according to the Record-Courier.
Multiple 911 calls have been made to Carson City dispatch from people driving who are reporting the fire.
Jacks Valley Road is closed. Motorists should avoid the area and leave room for arriving fire trucks. Central Lyon County Fire Protection District has been called for mutual aid.
The fire has burned 40-50 acres, according to KRNV.
