Eye on Carson: Mills Park
Although other activities and events are happening around town this Independence Day weekend, the centerpiece venue has been Mills Park for the past several years.
The park, located just east of downtown next to the Community Center at the corner of Roop and William streets, is the hub of activity over the Fourth of July weekend.
Besides the carnival -- featuring rides, games, and eats -- there are dozens of vendor booths on the infield, too.
On the east end of the field, adjacent to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion, The Wheel House of Carson City conducted its skate expo, which started at 1 p.m. this afternoon and runs until 8 p.m. tonight.
Trick riders with Team Wheel House put on an exhibition of their skills at the Mills Park skate park.
Despite hot temperatures in the nineties, carnival goers turned out Saturday to catch the building afternoon breeze on some thrill rides.
The carnival, open about 12 hours each day this weekend, runs through Monday, July 4.
Independence Day activities culminate with the annual fireworks show at Mills Park Monday night.
