Carson City recognized as friendliest town in state survey
Carson City was recognized as the state’s friendliest rural town, along with other awards, in Nevada Magazine’s 20th annual Reader’s Survey.
“As a Carson City native, I can vouch for the fact that this truly is the friendliest town,” said Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau. “People love this city, and are always willing to share that love with residents and visitors alike.”
The magazine asked its readers to vote on the “best of” in 25 categories. Winners for each category were organized by the north, south and rural parts of the state. They were announced in the July/August edition, which was published this week.
“We had thousands of votes this year as folks voted for their favorites in the north, south and everywhere else,” the magazine reads.
Other awards include the Rum Jungle Buffet at the Carson Fandango Best Rural Buffet; Casino Fandango as Best Rural Casino; Cafe at Adele’s as Best Rural Restaurant; the Carson City Children’s Museum at the Best Rural Place to Take Kids; Carson High School as the Best Rural High School; Fuji Park as the Best Rural Dog Park; Kei Sushi as Best Rural Sushi; and The Purple Avocado as the Best Rural Place to Shop.
Charlie Abowd, owner of Cafe at Adele’s, sees the Best Restaurant honor as a tribute to his parents, who opened the restaurant 40 years ago. He and his wife, Karen, took it over 21 years ago.
“I always say that Karen and I are the innkeepers of Adele’s — it’s still my mom and dad’s restaurant,” he said. “It reflects more of mine and Karen’s personalities and my culinary tendencies, but I’ve always tried to uphold the tradition of Adele’s.”
He also credited his staff for the restaurant’s success.
“It just reaffirms my confidence in our staff and their professionalism and hard work,” Abowd said.
Stan and Sue Jones this month entered their 17th year of owning the Purple Avocado, an eclectic gift shop.
“It’s wonderful,” Stan Jones said. “It’s great to be recognized in such a huge territory. It’s nice that people like our store so much to do that. Sue and I are humbled and very pleased.”
