Central Lyon County Fire Protection District firefighters were called Tuesday afternoon to the 700 block of Highway 50 in Dayton for a brush fire.
Multiple 911 calls were made to dispatch just after 1:30 p.m. reporting a fast moving brush fire that was putting up smoke and moving rapidly toward Gold Ranch Casino, according to Lyon County dispatchers.
Carson City Fire Department and Storey County were alerted to the fire and have been called for mutual assistance. Arriving firefighters were moving quickly to fight the fire from different locations. The fire is threatening structures.
According to a Central Lyon County Fire Protection District battalion chief, the fire is around five acres in size and burning in medium to heavy fuels and in cottonwood trees. The battalion chief noted he would be calling for an air attack through Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch in Minden.
Meanwhile, firefighters were called minutes later to the Six Mile Canyon area for a report of a second brush fire. Arriving firefighters on scene in the Six Mile Canyon fire area, however, were unable to see smoke and returned to the fire in Dayton.
Motorists are advised to stay clear of the area to allow for fire trucks. Check back for updates.
