'Grow with Google' today at Carson City Library and learn about the future of online business
The Carson City Library is partnering with Google today, Wednesday, to bring “Grow with Google” to the capital city.
The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., going over topics such as reaching customers online, promoting businesses online, and more.
In addition, drop-ins for one-on-one coaching with Google representatives will be available for the entire event.
Grow with Google is an “economic opportunity initiative which aims to provide Americans with the tools and resources they need for success in an economy where its increasingly important to know how to use Gmail, Google calendar, ad-analytics, and more,” said Grow with Google spokesperson Katherine Williams.
Grow with Google has planned to visit all 50 states hosting free workshops to “make sure Americans do have those tools,” Williams said, and Carson City is one of two stops in Nevada, the first being in Las Vegas.
Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell spoke at the opening of the event along with Diane Baker, the Interim Library Director, and Nancy Cummings Schmidt, Chair of the State Council on Libraries & Literacy.
“As Carson City continues to diversify, digital skills are going to be even more critical in the workplace,” said Cummings Schmidt. “Libraries can play an important role in helping our state become future ready.”
She also spoke about micro-funding being offered by the American Library Association to libraries throughout the state in conjunction with Google, which would help fund educational programming for communities.
Libraries could be awarded between $1,000 and $3,000, and if they partner with Google for the grants, will receive help from Google with online marketing and Google tools.
Mayor Crowell spoke on how important it is to build a community that attracts not only retirees, but a workforce as well.
“It’s important we have people who understand we’re entering a technical revolution,” said Mayor Crowell. “We’re in for some dramatic changes.”
He went on to talk about the fact that the workforce, as influenced by technology, is rapidly changing, not only for what people need to know while in the workforce, but also what they need to know long before they enter the workforce.
“We’re going to have dynamic changes in our workforce, dynamic changes in how communities are built, how communities survive and sustain, and the goal of our Board of Supervisors is to make sure that our community is well positioned to be the face of Nevada in the new economy that’s coming,” he said.
