Senator Square: Carson High School's Top 20 academic scholars

Congratulations to the Class of 2017 at Carson High School. Though the school year is concluded, teachers will be talking about this class for some time to come. According to CHS government teacher Angila Golik, “This is an amazing class of great kids, a huge accomplishment since there are close to 500 seniors in the class.”

The CHS Top 20 Academic Scholars from left to right are CHS valedictorian Anna Glenn, Rachel Rombardo, Nicholas Rosen, Camryn Aten, Elise Brady, Kacey Lopes, Emma Breeding, Makaela Bigley, Stuart McElhany, Ryan Tomita, Jiavanna Wong-Fortunato, Austin Schofield, Sophia Waite, Curtis Basa, Chloe Dodge, Alyssa Woodward, Henry Sturm, Wyatt Law, Stella Carroll, and Jake Roman.

This truly is an amazing class of great kids, and there is simply too much to say about them as it would immediately become a large volume of information. At the senior class assembly June 2, teachers from all departments awarded their outstanding students.

Though there are too many to list, the CHS Senior Project award winners are as follows: Best Overall Learning Stretch: Mia Brozovich and Antonio Magallanes, Best Portfolio: Elise Brady and Jose Adrian, Most Unusual Project: Tayler Smith and Diana Alonso, Best Sharing of Knowledge: Ellen Cherpeski and San Diego de Alejandra Alvarado-Soto, Best Learning Stretch in a Personal Development Project: Elizer Garnica, Best Learning Stretch in an Academic Project: Ana Valdenegro, Cynthia Madera, and Allan Huntington, Best Community-Oriented Project: Alyssa Woodward, Scarlett Baeza, and Connor Macrae, Best Learning Stretch for an Occupational Project: Diego Silva, Elizabeth Vogel, and Noelia Marialio, Best Attitude: Gregory McDannald, and the Against All Odds award went to Sedina Escobar and Alex Cardenas. It truly was an unforgettable school year at CHS.

Safe Grad is Happening Right Now
CHS Safe Grad night and next-day-trip are happening at this moment. The Safe Grad Program has been a tradition in Carson City for 29 years and provides the graduating senior class with a safe, fun and sober celebration on both graduation night and throughout the exciting trip the very next day. The CHS Safe Grad Committee, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, and local businesses and residents help sponsor the event. This is a proven and tremendously successful event as there has not been a graduate fatality on graduation night since the program’s inception in 1988. This event could not take place without our generous volunteers who make it happen, so please help.

Future Business Leaders of America
FBLA students, those who qualified for the National Conference coming up this month in Anaheim, CA, are raising money to offset the cost of this trip. Students competing are Hannah Golik and Sadie Sharie in Hospitality Management, Sophia White and Shaylin Segura in Marketing, Wyatt Law in Business Plan, Jaime Gudino in Public Speaking II, Mia Brozovich in Client Service, Nick Fischer in FBLA Principles and Procedures and Gloria Valdenegro in Marketing Decision Making.  The FBLA Chapter at Carson High School would like to thank the Hop and May Adams Foundation (Adams Hub) for their generous donation to help the students attend this competition. Miya McKenzie at the Adams Hub would like to challenge businesses and individuals to also donate and help the students. Fall Sports Registration
The CHS Athletic Department will be hosting 2017-2018 fall sports registration and sports physicals for: All sports, ROTC, Marching band June 21 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the big gym. Registration assistance will be available, and sports physicals are also available for $10.

CHIP: CHS Incentive Program
CHS is proud to announce the following Perfect Attendance Award winners for May. The ten randomly selected winners are: Alexander Andrade, grade 9; Jesse Barker, grade 10 (not pictured); Jakob Carlson, grade 10; Pablo Nobre Dos Reis, grade 11; Crystal Pando, grade 11; Christian Pineda Arciniega, grade 9; Carlos Ramirez-Hernandez, grade 10 (not pictured); Brooke Robinson, grade 9; and Logan Smedes, grade 11. These quarterly award winners were randomly selected and honored with a certificate and a movie ticket for their accomplishment.

Free to Juniors Next School Year
Attention current junior class CHS students. Interested in a career as an automotive mechanic or collision repair specialist? Next school year, seniors may take classes at WNC to become certified in these industries. Students who earn these credentials may get jobs starting at $15 per hour or even more. WNC Driver Ed Courses
Western Nevada College is offering 30-hour Driver Education Classes. Class sessions run 4 consecutive days and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In person, classes are $100. Student of the Week
Student of the Week is Isaiah Burrows. Isaiah is an editor of both the 2017 CHS Carneta yearbook and the Carson Senator News Magazine. He has spent countless hours making sure these publications reflect a professional, well-developed dedication to journalism. In addition, Isaiah has also begun writing for CarsonNow.org, the online local newspaper. He is a kind and amazing person. Congratulations Isaiah!
