Carson City area weather: Temperatures to climb into 90s during first days of June

The first few days of June may feel like summer has arrived, with temperatures in the low to mid 90s expected around Carson City and western Nevada, and low to mid 80s at Lake Tahoe and Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

While temperatures aren't expected quite yet to hit the 100 degree ceiling for Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, (at least for now anyway) they are expected to climb Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. There are not any weather alerts issued for western and northern Nevada. The same can't be said for southern Nevada where there's an excessive heat watch issued through Thursday evening.

Here's the latest National Weather Service forecast discussion from Monday morning. The next weather discussion will be released sometime Monday afternoon.

Temperatures
Afternoon/early evening highs will continue to rise for the first part of the week, peaking on Wednesday in eastern Calif., and far western Nevada; however, temperatures may not peak until Thursday across west-central Nevada, including Lovelock, Fallon, and Hawthorne. The record high (96 set in 1970) is in danger for Reno Wednesday.

Lows will gradually rise as daytime heat builds; however, given that skies are expected to be sufficiently clear overnight Tuesday and Wednesday nights, lows should still be able to fall into the mid 50s to mid 60s for lower valleys with 40s for Sierra valleys.

Thunderstorms
The potential for isolated thunderstorms remains in place for Wednesday. At this point, the focus remains in the Sierra south of Highway 50, however, there are hints of ... buildups eeking out into far western/northwestern Nevada.

Temperatures will decrease late week into the weekend with winds increasing as low pressure moves into the Pacific Northwest. Isolated thunderstorms are possible Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in the Sierra, NWS forecasters say.

For Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas, temperatures will be in the upper 80s to near 90 for this Memorial Day and the low to mid-90s Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, according to the weather service. Breezy conditions will return Friday, and bring down some of the heat. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s to near 90.

For the Lake Tahoe Basin, temperatures will be in the high 70s on Monday, the lower to mid 80s on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
