Suspect identified in Carson City Wells Fargo bank robbery

On Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at about 4:18 p.m. the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to the Wells Fargo Bank located at 1550 East William Street for a reported bank robbery that had just occurred. According to witnesses the suspect approached the bank teller and demanded money.

The suspect took the money from the teller and fled the bank with the stolen money in hand. The suspect was described as having dyed orange hair and wearing a blue winter jacket. No weapons were used or seen during the commission of the bank robbery.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived in the area and set up a containment perimeter. The suspect’s blue jacket was recovered a short distance from the bank. At about 4:43 p.m. a citizen called 911 and reported witnessing a man shoving money into his pockets in the area of 1764 Russell Street.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office personnel responded and apprehended 23-year-old Jesus Monroy-Rojas, whose hair and general description matched the description provided by witnesses at the bank.

Monroy-Rojas was in possession of a large sum of money at the time he was contacted by Sheriff’s Office personnel and ultimately admitted he was responsible for the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank.

Jesus Monroy-Rojas was transported to the Carson City Jail where he was booked for robbery.
